The next Friends Lecture will be given by Nick Ross on the 14 June 2025, at 7pm in Studio 1, main school in Oxford Road.

Nick will talk about the fascinating art at the beginning of the 14th century in central Italy.

The Golden Age of Sienese Painting: 1300-1350 by Nicholas Ross

In the early fourteenth century, Siena experienced a remarkable period of artistic innovation. During this time, several key artists emerged, including Duccio di Buoninsegna, Simone Martini, and brothers Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti. Forging a new way of painting, their works featured a drama no one had ever seen before.

In celebration of the wonderful new exhibition at the National Gallery ‘Siena: The Rise of Painting, 1300-1350’, Nick Ross from Art History Abroad will focus on works featured in the exhibition to explore this ‘golden age’ of Sienese painting. You can then visit the show with a great insight into the works, thus allowing you to make the most of your time in the gallery.

Nick Ross is the Director of Art History Abroad, an organisation known for its immersive art history courses. The author of highly regarded books on Florence, Canaletto and Joan Miró, Nick is passionate about making art history accessible and engaging.

The lecture is FREE to Friends of PSAD members.
